The second book in the 87th Precinct series, The Mugger is an Ed McBain classic, a nuanced portrayal of justice and vengeance hailed by the Daily Mirror as “a masterpiece of crime writing and there's nobody who does it better.”/5().

The Mugger is the 2nd book in the 87th Precinct series by American writer, Ed McBain. I've now read the first two of the series in pretty quick succession and I'm kind of hooked. The premise is simple; the cops of the 87th Precinct try to solve cases in their area/5.

The protagonists of this book are Roger Havilland, Hal Willis and Bert King, who all played a supporting role in the previous installment. In The Mugger, the 87th precinct detectives are looking for a loser who brutally preys on women the little money they carry in their purses.

He introduces himself as Clifford to them. The Mugger is about Bert Kling, who is a partolman. He is searching for a mugger named Clifford. He is doing this in his off duty time. Then a young girl Kling has met is killed, was it by the mugger or not????. The ending is great is all I will say about that.

The book is fairly short, easy to read and will hold you attention.5/5(5). The The mugger book (Book): McBain, Ed: The cops of the 87th precinct were out to get the mugger who preyed only on women.

Patrolman Bert Kling had a personal reason to go after him -- a reason that became an obsession and a sure way for a cop to get killed. Genre/Form: Fiction Detective and mystery fiction Specimens: Additional Physical Format: Online version: McBain, Ed, Mugger.

An unidentified city is plagued by a mysterious mugger who attacks women at night, steals their purses, and cuts them on their left cheek. A police shrink, Dr. Pete Graham, is called in when one of the mugger's victims turns up dead.

Book Two in the McBainiad - my quest to read all of the 87th Precinct novels in the order they were published. At this rate, I'll finish the 54 volume series somewhere around my 52nd birthday.

McBain was quicker writing them than I am in reading them; The Mugger is the second of three books. Hugger Mugger is a big up and coming horse, and he may be next up on the hit list. Spenser's kind of a fish out of water, but there's always great dialogue and fast pacing. The one very odd thing about the book is that one of the characters is a possible pedophile and it's tossed around like no big deal/5.

The Mugger () An unidentified city is plagued by a mysterious mugger who attacks women at night, steals their purses, and cuts them on their left cheek.6/10(). The Mugger is a American crime film about a police psychiatrist who is attempting to catch a mysterious mugger that has been attacking women in his city, stealing their purses and slashing their left cheek.

The film is a police procedural in structure, focusing on psychiatrist Dr. Pete Graham's investigation into the title character's by: Albert Glasser. The Mugger seems to be actually the second book in the series. For some reason, the first one is not out in Kindle yet.

Someone whom he had known years ago unexpectedly called Bert Kling, who is a ordinary beat cop, and asks him to talk to his sister-in-law/5(). 'The Mugger' was McBain's second 87th Precinct novel, building on the ideas he started with 'Cop Hater' in centering the action around one police precinct and the same set of characters.

Re-reading this again now, it is genuinely hard to believe /5(). A beat cop winds up on the trail of a deadly mugger, but when it suddenly gets personal, his own life might be the next thing to be snatched. “The 87th Precinct [is] one of the great literary accomplishments of the last half-century.” —Pete Hamill, Newsday Publish your book.

Then he punched his victims and told them not to scream. As the women reeled with pain and fear, he bowed and said, "Clifford thanks you, madam" The cops in the 87th Precinct were not amused.

Collected in The Second Jungle Book in The Story One night an Adjutant-crane, a jackal, and a huge old man-eating mugger (crocodile) are gossiping on. The Mugger is not extraordinarily suspenseful. It is a systematic, procedural manual that mixes the character development with the building plot.

It's not a whodunit, in that you're not likely to guess the murderer, because the clues are very subtle. Maybe you will if you're sharper tan I, but the twist at the end took me by surprise.
